St. Joseph’s Drogheda Capture Leinster Title

St. Joseph’s CBS Drogheda captured the u14 Leinster title with a four point victory over a well fancied CBS Carlow in Blanchardstown on Friday last.

St. Joseph’s CBS Drogheda captured the u14 Leinster title with a four point victory over a well fancied CBS Carlow in Blanchardstown on Friday last. It was the school’s first Leinster title at that age group and St. Joseph’s came out on top in an entertaining final. Carlow started brightly with the opening two points and only an outstanding save from Kyle Meegan kept them from increasing their lead. Emmet Delaney scored a long range point to steady the ship and slowly the joeys got on top playing some simple, intelligent football. A fine goal from Destin Bisiwala put St. Joseph’s ahead for the first time then some fine team play led to them having shots cleared off the line by Ultan McCabe and Liam Flynn.

Carlow once again started the second half well as both sides exchange points early on. A goal from Biswala put St. Joseph’s in control but four unanswered points from Carlow put them into a one point lead. Aaron McGlew, Liam Flynn and Keefer Carolan scored excellent long range scores as both sides exchanged points again moving into the last few minutes. Approaching the last minute, the excellent Tadgh Martin popped up to clinically finish off a fine St. Joseph’s move.

Moving into stoppage time the St. Joseph’s defence held firm throwing their bodies on the line to bloke two goalbound efforts. McCabe then topped off a fine individual performance by beating three men and slotting over to the delight of the large crowd. In what was a fine team performance Daniel Harmon, Steven Kerr, Conor McGuirk and Rhys Fordham worked tirelessly all game but Adam McDonagh excelled at full back to gain the man of the match award. Well done lads!

At half time, Lusk C.C were leading by 1 point but St. Joseph’s had a very strong wind against them. In the second half we were able to turn the game around. Lusk had a player sent off. U14 Gaelic Football

We played St. Mary’s in the Wolftone’s pitch a few weeks ago. When we got off the bust we went to the dressing rooms to get ready. Mr. McCole and Mr. Mathews announced the starting teams. After this we went and completed a very intense warm up. The first half was a great display of strength and composure from St. Joseph’s. Going into half time the score was 2-3 to 2-3. At half time our coaches had a chat with us. We think both teams had the chance to take the lead but in the end the final score was 4-6 to 4-6. Hopefully if we play St. Mary’s again we will beat them! By Tadhg Martin and Conor McGuirk
